IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND REGISTER ON THE NEW SITE NOW

Note: if you're having trouble connecting to the ITRC site, please delete any cookies for "itrc.hp.com" from your browser and try again. Report any difficulties with or suggestions to MrVMS

    ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO (patch) kit exists for YxDRIVER on OpenVMS VAX V5.0 through
V5.4-2. This kit contains the following fixes/problems:

    YCDRIVER:

o Always enable transmit in YC$RESUME, the old version
had some checks that have been removed. This would show
up with a terminal line being hung in the XOFFed condition.

o On battery backup systems, check for power fail when setting
DMA on. If a power fail has occurred then the state of DMA/NODMA
will not be changed. The old version always set it to DMA.

o Some ports would hang in a state where all DMAs would timeout.
The Silo mode would operate correctly.

    For OpenVMS VAX V5.3 - V5.3-x:

o Random extra characters are transmitted on terminal lines.
The characters are most often lower case "h". Care must be
taken not to confuse this problem with just random noise
causing extra characters. This problem is caused by noise on
one line generating characters on another line.

NOTE: This problem would only create parity errors on systems
    with noisy lines.

    For OpenVMS VAX V5.4 - V5.4-2:

o There has been a long outstanding problem with VAX 8800 type CPUs
with a UNIBUS. The problem is with the NBIB adapter. The adapter
has a problem with READ/MODIFY/WRITE instructions.

    YIDRIVER:

o If a process that sets a READSYNC bit exits without resetting
the bit to NOREADSYNC, the port hangs until a "SET TERM
Txxx/NOREADSYNC" is issued to that port from another terminal.

o When a process is in the /READSYNC mode, the DMB32 may not
generate all the XONs and XOFFs automatically.

    YFDRIVER:

    OpenVMS VAX V5.1 - V5.3-x:

o Always enable transmit in YF$RESUME. The old version had some
    checks that have been removed.

o Create a port routine to clear the XOFF state for disconnect.
This will clear the forced XOFF problem.

    OpenVMS VAX V5.4 - V5.4-2:

o The YFdriver will report modem signals even when modem is turned
off. This is needed to keep the modem bits in the UCB consistent
    with the device.

o There has been a long outstanding problem with VAX 8800 CPUs with
a UNIBUS. The NBIB adapter has a problem with READ/MODIFY/WRITE
instructions. The problem normally shows up as a fatal UNXIOINT
    (unexpected I/O interrupt)bugcheck

NOTE: This ECO kit should not effect the normal operation of terminal
    lines.

The following table correlates drivers, controllers and OpenVMS VAX
versions for which there are fixes in CSCPAT_0151:
