IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND REGISTER ON THE NEW SITE NOW

Note: if you're having trouble connecting to the ITRC site, please delete any cookies for "itrc.hp.com" from your browser and try again. Report any difficulties with or suggestions to MrVMS

    ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO (patch) kit exists for DCL for OpenVMS VAX V5.4-3 through
V5.5-2. This kit addresses the following problems:

o When using the DCL commands 'SET PREFIX' and 'SET VERIFY'
to pass an expanded command line that contains more than
256 characters to a nested command procedure, the process
    terminates with an ACCVIO error.

o F$CONTEXT lexical function generates an access violation
    (ACCVIO) with null argument.

o A repeated logical name assignment of SYS$OUTPUT fails, but
no message is displayed. If the global symbol $STATUS is
checked after the ASSIGN or DEFINE command, it has the value
"%X000184D4". This message number translates to:

    %RMS-E-DME, dynamic memory exhausted

o The DCL lexical function 'F$SEARCH' incorrectly returns a null
string when invoked from a subroutine 31 times. This can cause
the process to run out of dynamic memory storage.

o When a SPAWNed subprocess is logged off, the channel assigned
to its mailbox from the parent process is not released.

o When a SPAWN command fails with a SYMTOOLNG error, garbage
characters are shown for the name of the symbol.

o BATCH job terminates with NOHANDLER and ACCVIO error if the
CALL command is the last command in the BATCH command procedure.

o A DCL-W-USGOTO error is returned on a branch to a label whose
first four characters are DECK. This message is also returned
when a symbol beginning with DECK is placed between a branch
to a label and the label, regardless of the label name.

o The %DCL-W-USGOTO error is returned if the DCL command
'DECK/DOLLARS' is used in a command procedure with the DCL
    GOTO statement.

o When a command procedure invokes another command procedure
that contains a continuation character (e.g., '-') as the
last character of the last line, the command procedure will
    loop indefinitely.

o DCL generates an ACCVIO error when aborting a user mode image
using the CTRL/Y key and an ON ERROR condition is set up before
    invoking the image.

o BATCH or DETACHED job that spawns a subprocess (by using
either the DCL command 'SPAWN' or running a program that calls
the library routine LIB$SPAWN) terminates with an EXQUOTA or
    EXBYTLM error.

o Subprocess hangs during logout if it was spawned with a
    different UIC.
