ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for MONITOR Utility on OpenVMS VAX V5.0
through V5.4-2. This kit addresses the following problems:

  o  Unauthorized privileges may be given to authorized users of a
     system under certain conditions using the MONITOR Utility.
     Should a system be compromised through unauthorized access, there
     is a risk of potential damage to the system environment.

     NOTE:  This problem will NOT permit unauthorized access entry,
            as individuals attempting to gain unauthorized access will
            continue to be denied through the standard VMS security
            mechanisms.

     This problem is fixed in OpenVMS VAX V5.4-3.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

A system reboot is highly recommended following the installation of
this kit.

NOTE: Should you upgrade to one of the VMS releases affected, this
      kit must be re-applied, re-using this kit to obtain the
      appropriate image for your new VMS version.

For VAXcluster installations, the SPISHR.EXE needs its image replaced
on all members in the cluster, thus the following command needs to be
invoked on all members at the completion of this patch kit
installation.

         $ INSTALL
         INSTALL> REPLACE SYS$SHARE:SPISHR.EXE
