IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND REGISTER ON THE NEW SITE NOW

Note: if you're having trouble connecting to the ITRC site, please delete any cookies for "itrc.hp.com" from your browser and try again. Report any difficulties with or suggestions to MrVMS

    ECO KIT SUMMARY:

    An ECO (patch) kit exists for TPU V2.6 on OpenVMS VAX V5.2 through
    V5.5-2. This kit addresses the following problems:

      o The VMS DECwindows V3.0 Motif[R] User Interface is not
         supported by TPU V2.6.

      o TPU 2.6 does not run with eXcursion software.

      o TPU may access violate when running the VMS DECwindows XWindows
         User Interface (XUI).

      o The built-in READ_LINE followed by READ_KEY in the DECwindows
         interface aborts TPU.

      o When using the TPU editor through the DECforms FORMS DEVELOP
         panel-level (edit ifdl) icon, a FATAL VAXTPU/SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO
         error is signaled when exiting TPU.

      o Using the TPU debugger, the "SET WINDOW n n" command will cause
         an access violation (ACCVIO) if a GO command is not entered
         first.

      o  Executing the SET(PROMPT_AREA,...) built-in procedure can
         result in a "%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation".

      o When you shift the window right more than 256 columns when
         adding text to the buffer, garbage is added before the
         characters you entered.

      o EVE creates a journal file that may conflict with logical names.

      o After enabling the WPS-style keypad and using the WPS ruler to
         set the work wrap point, an attempt to perform the SHOW command
         fails with:

            Parameter 1's data type, STRING, unsupported

      o The TPU programming example procedure "USER_REMOVE_BLANK_LINES"
         documented in the VAX Text Processing Utility Manual,
         (AA-PBTNA-TE), Part II, page 7-514, produces a Fatal VAXTPU
         Internal Error.

      o  Copy_text built-in may cause an ACCVIO.

      o Communications line faults, terminal emulator faults, or an
         operation such as repeating the down-arrow key a number of
         times can result in a TPU internal error "partial escape
         sequence".

      o After exiting EDIT/TPU by pressing <CTRL/C> at the "file to
         save in:" prompt, the file is lost when trying to recover using
         "EDIT/TPU/RECOVER filename"

      o A user-written program that uses the Motif interface and calls
         TPU$TPU multiple times fails on the second call, producing a
         stack and register dump.

      o Attempting to use the keyname DO returns the message "Ambiguous
         or unrecognized keyname: do". Attempting to redefine either of
         the default DO keys (PF4 or F16) returns several TPU error
         messages, finishing with "You cannot define the only DO key".

      o When using TPU as supplied with OpenVMS VAX V5.3 through
         V5.5-2, it is no longer possible to redefine the CTRL/C key
         even after issuing the DCL command "SET TERM/PASTHRU".

      o When a user invokes DECwindows EVE in Fileview or selects
         "OPEN..." from the file menu in the EVE window, the file filter
         incorrectly displays the directory and file specification.

      o TPU timed messages, enabled by SET(TIMER,ON), are not
         displaying properly.

      o When using a customized section file (built using EVE$BUILD),
         information that should be displayed in the message window
         (line 24) is sometimes displayed in the current editing window.

      o The screen is not always updated properly when the search and
         replacement parameters in a call to the TPU built-in procedure
         TRANSLATE contain TAB characters.

      o If <CTRL/C> is pressed during the compilation of a procedure,
         TPU terminates with an internal fatal error.

      o TPU aborts its startup if the work file cannot be opened, even
         if the work file is not needed.

      o The XUI interface of TPU would not allow users to turn off
         cursor blink.

    ECO KIT ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:

    If after an evaluation you wish to obtain this kit, request it
    electronically using the appropriate Advanced Electronic Services
    (AES) Service Tool. If you are not familiar with how to request
    kits electronically, open the DIA, WIS or DSNLINK database and
    review the article entitled:

    INSTALLATION NOTES:

    The system/cluster does not need to be rebooted after this kit is
    installed.

    This kit updates the DCL help library and DCL tables so users will
    have to log out and log back in if they wish to use EDIT/TPU after the
    installation of the images has completed.

    If this kit is installed on a cluster common area, several files must
    be replaced using the INSTALL utility. The following command procedure
    may be used to do this.

    NOTE: The VMSINSTAL procedure does this automatically on the node the
    kit was installed on.

    $ INSTALL
      REPLACE SYS$LIBRARY:TPUSHR.EXE
      REPLACE SYS$LIBRARY:TPU$CCTSHR.EXE
      REPLACE SYS$MESSAGE:TPUMSG.EXE
    $EOD
    $ IF F$SEARCH ("SYS$LIBRARY:EVE$SECTION.TPU$SECTION") .NES. ""
    $ THEN
    $ IF F$FILE_ATTRIBUTES("SYS$LIBRARY:EVE$SECTION.TPU$SECTION", -
      "KNOWN") .EQS. "TRUE"
    $ THEN
    $ INSTALL REPLACE SYS$LIBRARY:EVE$SECTION.TPU$SECTION
    $ ENDIF
    $ ENDIF
    $ ! Always remove the old XUI interface file.
    $ INSTALL REMOVE SYS$LIBRARY:TPU$DECWSHR.EXE
    $ EXIT

    This kit will have to be re-installed after any major VMS upgrade
    between OpenVMS VAX V5.2 and OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2. This version of TPU
    is not included with any version of OpenVMS VAX prior to OpenVMS VAX
    V6.0. If this kit is not re-installed, the system will revert to an
    older version of TPU.

    NOTE: After the installation of this kit, the version of TPU will be
    V3.1. TPU V3.1 is included in OpenVMS VAX V6.0.

    System managers may want to remind system users that any new features
    of EVE will not be part of their private section files and those
    section files should be rebuilt.

    Users of the XUI interface who have private EVE section files should
    be warned that the section files ** WILL NOT WORK ** with this
    release. The EVE XUI UID file has been removed from the system and
    previous version of EVE will still try to load in the old UID file.
    This will cause the DECwindows interface for EVE to come up
    incorrectly.
