ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists that contains a firmware upgrade to T392 for
the RF31T, RF31T+, RF35, RF35+ and RF73 disk drives shipped prior to
November 13, 1992 that have not yet been upgraded to at least revision
level T387. This kit can be applied on OpenVMS VAX V5.0 or later
and addresses the following problem(s):
o Systems with RF31T, RF31T+, RF35, RF73, and RF35+ disk drives
installed may experience data corruption if an application using
the IO$_WRITECHECK function is running. (The only known DIGITAL
application which uses this function is Volume Shadowing Phase
II.) When this condition occurs, no error messages or warnings
are returned indicating that corruption has occurred on the drive.
NOTE: If you firmware has been upgraded to T387 and you are still
experiencing data corruption, it is strongly recommended
that you install this kit as soon as possible.

ECO KIT ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:

electronically using the appropriate Advanced Electronic Services
(AES) Service Tool. If you are not familiar with how to request
kits electronically, open the DIA, WIS or DSNLINK database and
review the article entitled:

INSTALLATION NOTES:
This ECO kit allows users the ability to upgrade their drive
firmware using an OpenVMS interactive program. In the past,
firmware upgrades required a physical swap of some hardware,
either the option, logic module or component containing the code.
This meant a field service engineer had to be dispatched to the
customer's site. However, with the implementation of FLASH memory
technology, we now have the capability of downline loading the
new firmware to the drive and writing it into FLASH memory. This
allows upgrades to be done by customers (if they so choose), the
CSCs remotely, or on-site by a Field Services engineer.
To install this firmware upgrade, a loader program must be run.
For more information, refer to the CSCPAT_10660nn.RELEASE_NOTES
and FIRMWARE_UPGRADE.TXT files contained in the patch kit.
