    ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for DECwindows Motif V1.2. This kit addresses the
    following problems:

    Console Window Application:

o This kit includes support for a new DECwindows Motif application,
the Console Window, which shares the same executable as the
Message Window. By default the Console Window does not start and
broadcasts are disabled to OPA0:. If you enable the Console
Window then when DECwindows starts up the Console Window
application will appear in the lower right corner of your login
screen, and will remain on the screen after you log in. Console
broadcasts will be displayed in this window.

To start the Console Window or to enable OPA0: broadcasts, edit
the file SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.COM (if it doesn't
         exist, create it from SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.TEMPLATE)
and define the global symbol DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION. The default
value of the symbol is "DISABLE". Set it to "WINDOW" to allow
the Console Window to start, or to "ENABLE" to allow broadcasts
to OPA0: to be displayed in the 6-line operator window. After
editing the setup file, restart DECwindows with the command
         "@SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTUP RESTART".

Because of problems in the console device driver that can't
easily be addressed, we recommend that you do not set
DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION to "ENABLE". Either display console
broadcasts in the Console Window application by setting
DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION to "WINDOW" or disable them altogether by
setting DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION to its default value of "DISABLE".

If you have enabled an alternate console on your workstation then
DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION will be ignored and console broadcasts
will be enabled to the alternate console.

In order to receive OPCOM messages in the Console Window, the
6-line operator window or the alternate console you must not only
define DECW$CONSOLE_SELECTION to the appropriate value but must
also define the logical name OPC$OPA0_ENABLE to be "TRUE" (default
         value) in SYS$MANAGER:SYLOGICALS.COM.

The Console Window can be customized by editing the resource file
         DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS:DECW$CONSOLE.DAT. Both the Console Window
and the Message Window use a fixed width font for improved
readability, but for users to pick up the new font in the Message
Window they'll have to delete their DECW$USER_DEFAULTS: versions
         of DECW$MESSAGEPANEL.DAT.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

The work around for the console driver problems is to
disable broadcasts to OPA0:, but this prevents the user from
seeing OPCOM and other OPA0: output.

    Login Problems:

o Fixes a problem with customizing the login environment by
defining the global symbol DECW$SESSIONCOM in
         DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.COM.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Logging into a VXT2000 is slower when using the DECnet transport
than when using the LAT transport due to a 30 second delay in the
DECW$LOGINOUT process. This problem is caused by DECW$WAITFORSM.EXE
         running without NETMBX privilege.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Remote logins fail when the server and client are running
different versions of OpenVMS. This problem occurs between
OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 and OpenVMS VAX V6.1. From an OpenVMS Alpha
V6.1, create a display to a VAXstation and from the Alpha start a
new DECW$STARTLOGIN session. The login box / banner displayed on
the VAXstation, after entering username and password, nothing
else happens. This problem does not exist between OpenVMS Alpha
         V1.5 and OpenVMS VAX V6.1.

This problem will be corrected in a future release.

o Control characters don't work in the login box's Password field.
On the Login screen, the Username field responds to CTRL-U by
spacing one position to the right, rather than erasing the field.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

              Edit DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS:DECW$LOGIN.DAT and change #augment
              to #override.

o Fixes a problem with detached login failure messages when audit
messages are enabled due to orphan WSA devices, i.e. WSA devices
that are no longer needed by DECW$LOGINOUT but are not deleted.
DECW$LOGINOUT will not delete the WSA device before exiting if
the logical name DECW$LOGIN_PRESERVE_WSA is defined.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Write a command procedure or program that deletes WSA
devices with reference count = 0.

o Fixes a problem with logins to a VXT hanging after the user
enters the username and password. This was caused by
DECW$LOGINOUT enabling node 0 instead of the client node for
access to the server when using a transport other than DECnet for
         a remote login.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Add the client node, with the user's username, to the VXT's
security access list before the user logs in.

o Fixes a problem that prevented DECW$SESSIONEND from being defined
to point to a command procedure.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

              Edit the DECW$STARTAPPS.COM file changing
              'F$EDIT(&P1,"UPCASE")' to "''F$EDIT(&P1,"UPCASE")'"

    Session Manager/FileView Problems:

o FileView will exit with an access violation if the user enters
text for a logical name or table that is over 255 characters
         long.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where pressing MB3 in a FileView file list below
the last file kills the DECwindows Session Manager.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where applications would not start from the
Session Manager when they used a WSA device with a unit number
over 99. This resulted in the error message "no such device
         available."

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Autostarting numerous DECterms on a fast CPU system can result in
not all DECterms starting or can cause the Session Manager to
crash. This is because each of the CREATE/TERMINAL commands is
run in a subprocess of the Session Manager, and all the share the
same page file quota with the Session Manager process. Once the
page file quota is used up, the next process will die because of
         lack of virtual memory.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem on fast systems running FileView as a client ...
(VS4000 M90, AXP etc...) where intermittently, the user cannot
use the FileView Command Menu verbs (any of them - compare, copy,
rename etc...). After using the verb a few times, the Verb
Dialog fails to appear. A process appears active in the Work In
Progress Box, but the Verb Dialog is not viewable.

Sometimes selecting the verb from the menu again or reselecting
it several times will bring the Verb Dialog up, but each
successive attempt produces more and more active processes, as
show in the Work In Progress window.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

End the session and log in again.

    Message Window Problems:

o Fixes a problem where the message window periodically resets
itself, blanking out any text in the window and resetting the
         scroll bar to the top.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

    DECterm Problems:

o Strings passed to DECterm's DECW$TERM_PORT routine had to be null
         terminated.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Without this fix, programs that call DECW$TERM_PORT need to
make sure that all strings passed by descriptor also end in
a null character. The null character is not included in the
              length of the string.

o Under some circumstances, the CREATE/TERMINAL program would go
         into a CPU-intensive loop.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem with slow screen updates in DECterm for lines
that contained color text in non-default colors. Every time any
character is displayed on a line and a non-default color has been
selected for the foreground or background, the entire line will
be re-drawn. This change was included as part of the
internationalization changes to support Asian languages.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o DECterm would not start on OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2 systems that were
         running DECnet/OSI V5.6B.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o DECterm was sending an incorrect DA (device attributes) response
when the Terminal ID option was set to VT340.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Set the Terminal ID option to VT330 ID in General Options.

    Bookreader Problems:

o Bookreader would terminate with an ACCVIO when printing a
document with an incorrectly defined hotspot. This fix enables
the user to successfully print the StorageWorks RAID Software For
OpenVMS Users Guide to a PostScript file.

This problem will be corrected in a future release.

    Notepad Problems:

o In order to change the setting of the Word Wrap option it is
necessary to exit and restart Notepad. Notepad now displays a
warning message each time the user changes the Word Wrap option,
stating that Notepad must be restarted for the new Word Wrap
         setting to take effect.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

The user must exit and restart Notepad for the new Wrap Wrap
setting to take effect, whether or not the warning message
              is displayed.

o Fixed several problems with Split View: the bottom view was
blank, manipulating the top view after a split could cause
Notepad to ACCVIO, and the deleting the bottom view could leave
         the display area blank.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

The version of Notepad that is included with this patch kit is
based on the V1.2-3 SSB sources. All of these split view
         problems are fixed in V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Some of the problems can be worked around by resizing the
Notepad problem after the Split View.

o Fixes a problem where the vertical scroll bar position is wrong
after opening or including a file.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Resizing the Notepad window corrects the problem.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad would hang.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad would not open a file unless it was
running under a UIC that had access to the file based on the
file's UIC protection (SY,OW,GR,WO). Notepad would not use the
file's ACL, and would not open the file even if the process had
         BYPASS or SYSPRV privilege.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Set the file's UIC protection to allow access or use a
              different text editor.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad's journal recovery didn't complete
a replacement within the selected area. If the Notepad process
was stopped with replacing text within the selected area, the
last substitution was not completed during the recovery.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where when the user selects Help in Notepad for
the Open and Include items in the File menu. The following error
         message is displayed:

Can't find topic Byy+ in book
              Book title: help on Notepad
              Book file: SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP]DECW$NOTEPAD.DECW$BOOK

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad would crash if the user selected
Next Incremental... in the Search menu.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where the cursor position was not restored by the
         Undo command.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Manually adjust the cursor position after performing the
              Undo.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad was not saving its position and
size when the user selected Save Options from the Options menu.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

The user must manually adjust the size and position of the
Notepad window each time he or she starts Notepad.

o Notepad now uses the file selection widget when the user selects
         Save As...

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where Notepad's cursor position was not marked
         when losing focus.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

    Print Screen Problems:

o Fixes a problem where Print Screen would crash when doing a black
and white sixel capture on a grayscale display server.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where a partial screen capture to a PostScript
output file on a grayscale system would cause Print Screen to
         crash.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where Print Screen on a grayscale display server
returns the error message %ISL-F-BUFOVRFLW, buffer overflow with
         no action routine specified.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where an empty Queue Options popup dialog box
would remain on the screen when doing a screen capture with no
         time delay.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Use the time delay feature when capturing the screen.

o Fix a problem that caused a BadMatch error when capturing a
         portion of the screen.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes several memory leaks in Print Screen, most notably a
problem where Print Screen was not freeing the memory used to
store the screen contents after doing a screen capture.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

Exit Print Screen and restart it after capturing each image.

o Fixes a problem where Print Screen was ignoring the geometry
resources saved in its resource file.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

The user must manually move and resize Print Screen after
              starting it.

o Print Screen now sounds the bell when a timed screen capture is
         complete.

This problem will be corrected in a future release.

         Workaround:

Without this feature the user would need to use a watch with
a second hand to know when the time delay had completed.

o Print Screen now uses XOR drawing mode to draw the selection
rectangle, instead of using a black rectangle as has been done in
previous versions. This makes the rectangle visible over a black
         background.

This problem will be corrected in a future release.

         Workaround:

The user must either mentally picture where the selection
rectangle would be based on the pointer position or else
change the background color to something other than black.

         side of the screen.

This problem will be corrected in a future release.

o Fixes a problem where the Fit-To-Paper option became inverted

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where selecting an item in a list which occurs
after the end of a new list, then attempting to CTRL-MB1 any item
in the new list would cause the process to terminate.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes problems with Menu Shells and TearOff widgets that have
non-default visuals, that is, if colormaps are installed that

         default.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes problems with the Simple Menu Creation Resource Set
(XmCreateSimple* and XmVACreateSimple*), which set XmNbuttonCount
and the various button arrays specifying labels, accelerators,
etc. A section of the code treated these arrays as
NULL-terminated, even though NULL values within an array are
         legitimate.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem with XmTextField resizing improperly when the

component widgets and which is in the same window as traversable
widgets would not accept keyboard traversal.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where the SVN widget behaved strangely when
DXmSvnDeleteEntries() was called from a DXmSvnNentrySelectedCallback
routine. It appeared that the entry was deleted successfully,
but instead of just scrolling up the screen by one line, it
scrolled it all the way to the top. This only happened when the
first entry displayed on the screen was deleted. If the second
entry was deleted, then the display scrolled up by one line, as
         expected.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

    WML 1.2.2 Problems:

o Fixes a problem with the .WML source files and compiled .WMD
files supplied with Motif, which did not contain the resource
definitions for the XmText ScrolledText Resource Set. These
resources are only valid when an XmText widget is created in an
XmScrolledWindow. However, attempting to use these resources
always resulted in an error message:

                    XmNcrollHorizontal = false;
                                              *
%UIL-W-UNSUPPORTED, the XmNscrollHorizontal argument is not
              supported for the XmText object

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where SYS$LIBRARY:DECW$WML_TOKENS.DAT could not
be accessed by WML. The message "Couldn't open tokens.dat" was
displayed and the resulting WML database file was corrupted.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a XmMenuShell memory leak which could occur when fetching
         and destroying a menu bar.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where, if XmPIXMAP was specified as the
XmMlabelType of an XmToggleButton, the application program could
die with an X Protocol error (BadDrawable in an XGetGeometry
         request).

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where Oracle applications would get access
         violations due to traversal problems.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem with DXmCSText scrolling when Right to Left
direction is selected, and a segment split exactly at the end of
         the line.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where DXmCSText would hang if more than three
lines of TAB characters were typed.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

    Xt Intrinsics Library R4 Problems:

o Fixes a problem in _XtWaitForSomething, which failed to read the
         current time.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem in XtPhase2Destroy which could cause an ACCVIO
when XtDestroyWidget() is called to destroy relatively large
         widget hierarchies.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where occasionally passive grabs would not be
ungrabbed if the widget was destroyed.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

    Xlib Problems:

o Fixes a problem where the DECterm controller loops on empty
resource file. All existing DECterms go blank and the user is
unable to create a DECterm from the Session Manager.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

         Workaround:

To fix the problem, you can bring up FileView from session
manager and then a DCL command window and do a STOP/ID on
the DECW$TE process. Create a resource file with data in
it. Then you can create DECterm again from Session Manager.

o Fixes a problem where the return status is not checked in
_XDELIVERASYNCINPUT. In some AST-driven applications, AST
routines are picking an event from the XEvent queue and doing
some work. They could pick the wrong event leading to
desynchronization if one AST is not posted.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where logical name references in XLIB do not use
the DECW$ prefix. Xlib has several GETENV() calls for logicals
that are NOT prefixed by "DECW$" in V1.2 BL4 source. All of
these *should* be prefixed by a registered one, DECW$.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixes a problem where the user can not enter control characters
while group shift is in effect. In order to enter control codes,
such as CTRL-C and CTRL-S, when in ModeSwitch (Group2) mode, the
ModeSwitch modifier must be canceled if the control modifier is
also active. This logic is in DECwindows Motif V1.1 Xlib's
         XKEYBIND.C, but NOT in V1.2.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o Fixed a memory leak in XrmDestroy.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.

o There are a number of Non-C bindings (X$ calls) that do not work
properly. Many times they can cause an ACCVIO that is not the
         fault of the application developer.

This problem is corrected in DECwindows Motif V1.2-3.
